Hi. I'm Becky, and I love to eat.

Crockpot Dilly Buns

Crockpot Dilly Buns

This crockpot bread making is getting out of hand! It's so easy, and most importantly, it doesn't heat up my whole house. It getting me excited at the possibility to still be able to bake fresh bread, even in the dead heat of Summer when all you can eat is yogurt and watermelon while sweating cause it's too hot to use the stove and oven.....

These rolls come together very quickly, and there's no proofing time. You pop the dough into the crockpot, and it does the entire rise and bake dance in there for you! No multi-step bread making here.

I flavored this batch with a bunch of dill and a pinch of salt, but experiment with the spices to match your meal. Happy baking y'all!

Crockpot Dilly Buns

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 packet yeast
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp dried dill
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 cups flour

For egg white wash

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 egg white
  • pinch of salt

Heat your crockpot on high, line with a sheet of parchment paper. In the bowl of your standing mixer, combine 1 1/2 cups hot water, 1 package yeast and 1 tbsp sugar. Stir gently until combine and allow yeast to activate for 10 minutes. Yeast should "bloom" and appear frothy on surface. Once the yeast is ready, add in olive oil, salt and dried dill, stir with a fork and attach bowl to mixer using dough hook. On medium speed, add in flour 1 cup at a time; stop to scrap down sides if needed. Turn mixer speed up and mix until dough pulls from edges of the bowl and grabs onto the dough hook.

Remove from bowl and place dough on floured counter top. Divide dough into 2 equal parts; divide each section in half again, and once more, making 8 rolls. Place rolls touching in rows of 2 down the center of your lined crockpot. Cover and bake on high for 65 minutes. Check the bottom of the rolls to see if they have begun to brown. If so, remove from crockpot and place on baking sheet. Combine egg white and olive oil and a pinch of salt in a small bowl; brush over buns and broil on high for only 1 minute. Watch very closely as egg whites will burn instantly!

Cool on rack fully before storing in sealed container.
